Ba Be Lake is home to over 3,000 people from the ethnic minorities of Tay, Nung, Dao and Mong, who live in 13 villages within the park. The Tay ethnic minorities have inhabited Ba Be area for centuries and make up 58 per cent of the population within the park’s boundaries.

How to get to Ban Gioc waterfall

Ban Gioc Waterfall considered as the largest one in Vietnam – is now an attractive points of interest and a good spot for both locals and tourists from other countries. To get to Ban Gioc Waterfall you need to travel some 380 km from Hanoi, you will reach this splendid fall and surely be amazed at its tremendous size and unbeatable beauty.

Ban Gioc Waterfall on the Quy Xuan River is located in Cao Bang Province, near the Sino-Vietnamese border. The waterfall is thirty meters high. It is separated into three falls by rocks and trees, and the thundering effect of the water hitting the cliffs can be heard kilometers away from Trung Khanh.

Water from the Quy Xuan River’s falling down on the stone creates columns of water droplets that can be seen even from a far distance. The temperature near the waterfall is remarkably cool, due to the water mist in the air. At the foot of the waterfall is a large river, as calm as glass, which is surrounded by many precious kinds of flowers. Ban Gioc Fall is famous for a famous type of fish named “tram huong”. In the early 1920s, French people started building cottages on the river banks. They would come here to relax, fish for “tram huong”, and hunt deer.

3 day Tour Ba Be Lake and Ban Gioc Waterfall

Day 1: Drive from Hanoi to Ba Be Lake

You will be picked up early in the morning by our tour guide and driver for the journey to Ba Be Lake for a 230 kilometers scenic drive. Along the way you will stop to visit a Tay minority community, the second largest ethnic group in Vietnam after the Viets, mostly living off the cultivation of rice.

3 day Tour Ba Be Lake and Ban Gioc Waterfall

Continue to Ba Be National Park for a boat ride along the Nang River, with time to explore Ba Be Lake, the caves of Puong Grotto, the rapids of the Dau Dang waterfall and tiny Widow Island. You will also visit the stilt houses of the Tay community in Pac Ngoi Village, where you will spend the night in a home-stay.

Day 2: Ba Be – Cao Bang – Ban Gioc waterfall

After breakfast, depart for Cao Bằng close to Vietnam’s northern border with China. You will be introduced to the Nung people in the village of Phuoc Sen, a small village famous for the production of farming tools.

Like the Tays, the Nung ethnic minorities largely live by farming the terraced rice paddies that you will see all around as you transfer to Ban Gioc Waterfall, the majestic falls that demarcate the border between Vietnam and China. Spend some time at leisure relaxing and taking souvenir photos as you soak up the sublime atmosphere of Vietnam’s most beautiful waterfall.

Day 3: Cao Bang – Hanoi

Depart from Cao Bang and transfer south to Hanoi. It is a journey that last for 310 kilometers through vertiginous rice paddies and remote villages. You will get the chance to stop at an ethnic village known for its tobacco production. This is the road less traveled in Vietnam, offering the chance to enjoy some peace and tranquility.

You will also visit the Museum of the Cultures of Vietnam’s Ethnic Groups in Thai Nguyen City where you can browse the objects, photographs and exhibits that give a better understanding of the various ethnic groups and their agricultural tools, handicrafts and traditional costumes worn for worshipping.

There will be a stop for lunch before your hotel drop-off back in the capital city, Hanoi.
