A few minutes’ walk away is the Saigon opera house , which now serves as the city theater, as well as the two most famous hotels of its time: the Continental Hotel from 1880, right next to the theater and the Majestic Hotel from 1925 on the banks of the Saigon River, both are operating today. In the surrounding streets of the old town are numerous villas to be seen, which are excellently renovated nowadays mostly upscale restaurants. At the beginning of the 20th century, the town hall, which today – together with the statue of Ho Chi Minh in the park in front – is one of the most popular photographs of the city.
