Love me tender, Hanoi Autumn!

I usually sleep tight as a little pig for the whole weekend morning. But today, I was awoken by a cool breeze. The sky looked especially green and full of nostalgia. Took a deep breath, I knew the Hanoi Autumn had been already there.

As the locals commonly say, Hanoi stays alive in autumn. For me, it is a symphony of color, smell and taste. I rolled so deep in the autumn melody that I suddenly found myself on my motorbike, ready for the autumn weekend trip which is well included in Vietnam Tour Packages.

Balmy weather

I start my journey by standing still under a tree in the front yard. The weather in Hanoi during the fall can often be compared to that of a young girl: sometimes gloomy, but often shortly after, full of sunshine. At noon time, the weather often changes and increases in temperature. In spite of such characteristics, I still give my endless love for her. Believe me! No one can hates autumn, especially when they see small rays of sunshine through the leaves as if they were hundreds of untouchable crystals. Once walking slowly down the street, you will feel totally different from the bustling city life as usual.

How we enjoy Hanoi Autumn?

Just to autumn, Hanoi was promptly put on her a glamorous gown, the town has slowed the pace to catch the autumn quietly, let it surf on moss roof and leaving behind a carpet of rustling yellow leaves. So the easiest way to see what happen in this town is riding a motorbike with your friend, do some chitchat and find something to feed your appetite.

After taking enough pictures of the golden leaves, we continue to visit Book Worm, a boutique bookshop on Chau Long street. The tini book shop always provide buyers a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.

Afterwards, we get off and have a cozy cup of coffee in Cafe Duy Tri on Yen Phu street. Lucky enough, we have a sit on the balcony where we can start at the busy traffic down the road.

Hanoi is like a beautiful mess. It makes people love it for the same reason they hate it. They are the dirty walls, the noises, the smells in the air, the chaotic on the road, the bumpy sidewalks and the insane electric wires.

Well! Autumn is a ripe time for everyone to opt for many types of flowers. As favourite flowers, I would say white chamomile.

Snacks for Autumn

Hanoi’s fall is also the time of tropical food blooming such as Sharon fruit, pomelo, golden apple. The fruit of the flowering plant “sau” (Dracontomelon duperreanum) is a common snack in Hanoi this season. The Hanoian use the green fruits as a souring agent or soak them in sugar to make candied treat similar to the Japanese umeboshi.

You can find “Sau” in any corners of any streets in Hanoi.

What to do in Hanoi Autumn
Most Vietnamese people don’t actually eat golden apples, they just buy them to enjoy their pleasant smell.

Another retreat of Hanoi Autumn is Com (Green sticky rice). Com is usually covered in large lotus leaves not only because it looks more beautiful, but also because the smell of lotus leaves helps enhance the taste of young green rice.

Com is usually served with ripe bananas. It also has many variations.

Milkwood pine flowers

Ironically, Hanoians are always complaining about the strong fragrance emitted from milkwood pine flowers, but if these flowers do not show up, the picture of Hanoi Autumn will be incomplete. When the sun goes down, the city is covered by lights, this makes oneself warm in the slightly cold weather. Hanoi people usually go out the street to play in the cool weather of autumn.
