General Director of the Vietnam Aviation Company (Vietnam Airlines) Duong Tri Thanh said the plan for this new route has been prepared for 10 years.
Vietnam Airlines has focused on upgrading the quality of synchronized services as well as investing in equipment system with a wide-body fleet which includes two of the most advanced aircraft generations: A350-900 XWB aeroplanes and Boeing B787-8 Dreamliners.
According to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, Vietnam’s national airline may open direct flights to USA instead of transiting in the third country, only if Vietnam ratifies the CAT 1 – the minimum standards for air safety oversight established by US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Recently, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam has been intensively working with the aviation safety inspector of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Vietnam in an aviation evaluating program carried out by this agency. However, this decision has been seriously considered since the number of American travelers increased due to visa waiver program back to the 2015, in addition, most of the Vietnam tour operator are also keen on opening this new route in order to increase the sale of their Vietnam tour packages
Also for Vietnam Airlines open the first direct flight to the USA, the agency is also preparing for the safety oversight capability review of FAA in the third quarter of 2016, which supports the CAA in meeting the CAT 1 requirement.
